John Hagart

John HagartJohn Hagart was assistant manager to both Willie McLean and Roger Hynd. John would have two spells as caretaker manager after the resignation of both Hynd and McLean, they endured tough relegation battles and that basically put paid to their tenures in charge. Appointed caretaker boss for the first time on 6th December 1977, immediately after Willie McLean handed in his resignation. When a new gaffer was appointed on 22nd December he came in the shape of Roger Hynd who had plied his trade with Rangers and Birmingham City. Haggart would remain at the club as assistant manager. Hynd’s Spell in charge of course got off to a tremendous start, but sadly it would turn into another relegation dog fight and after less than a year in the Job he resigned. John’s second spell as caretaker had him at the helm for over a month, the board appointed him to the role on 1st November 1978. After watching Roger Hynd’s ‘Well side loss 8 times in 9 games, Hagart immediately helped the side beat Celtic 2-1 at Parkhead, sadly radical change was needed at Fir Park and the board turned to former Scotland coach Ally MacLeod, it was hoped his vast experience could stave away the threat of relegation. As a new management team was now in place John Hagart left the club.
