Jimmy Archibald

Archibald, a Falkirk born wing-half began his career with Motherwell in 1914. Jimmy would feature in 5 seasons with club and never really established himself as a first team regular. His first goal for the club came on the 24th October 1914 in a 1-1 draw against St. Mirren, Jimmy would net a further 18 goals for the club before departing Fir Park in 1919. On Monday 23rd September 1918 the Motherwell board weren’t best pleased by Jimmy’s performance in a match deeming it unacceptable and due to his unprofessional attitude resolved to fire him with four weeks’ notice being given. However Jimmy lasted a bit longer and in 1919 Tottenham Hotspur purchased him for £100. Whilst at Spurs he featured in 24 games scoring a solitary goal. In 1922 he joined Aberdare Athletic. Before retiring Jimmy would play for Clapton Orient (now known as Leyton Orient) Southend United, Margate and finally Tunbridge Wells Rangers. He died in 1975.
