Craig Bailey

Signed as a 19 year old from Brighton and Hove Albion by Bobby Ancell, inside-right Craig Bailey (sometimes erroneously spelt Baillie) had a decent goals to games ratio at Fir Park in league fixtures as he was on the scoresheet once every two games, he made his debut against Kilmarnock and he would score on this occasion.

Despite being a decent prospect he struggled to break into the side and make the position his own. Motherwellnet briefly spoke to Craig back in January 2006 and he managed to sum up his spell quite nicely in this statement.

“I was with the ‘Well for two seasons and despite scoring loads of goals for the reserve team I did not get a lot of first team joy. It was a bit hard when the guy you were trying to oust was Joe McBride.” – Craig Bailey

Craig also told us he had played in numerous Lanarkshire Cup ties and on one particular occasion he enjoyed getting on the scoresheet in a fine 4-1 win over Airdrie at Fir Park. Upon leaving Motherwell he would have spells with Shotts Bon Accord and Distillery in Belfast.
