Jacob Blyth

Jacob BlythAs a 19 year old, Jacob Blyth signed for Leicester City having initially been plying his trade in the lower rungs of English football where he had caught the eye numerous scouts after his impressive form with Nuneaton Griff, Bedworth United and then Leamington.

Blyth had actually taken a similar path to Leicester as one Jamie Vardy who was also plucked from the lower echelons of English football. While Vardy flourished after getting his big break in the game, he would help the Foxes secure a return to the English Premiership, and against all odds help them win the actual title in 2015/16 before being capped by England, conversely for Blyth, despite being a regular scorer for the development squad he just couldn’t break into the first team scene and his only joy at getting any action was being loaned out, during his four years at the Kingpower Stadium, Jacob was loaned out no fewer than seven times.

The 23 year old would sign for Motherwell on a two year deal with the option of a third on the 23rd June 2016.

Jacob certainly had a number of impressive attributes most notably being a big powerful forward, unfortunately his first season in Lanarkshire was hampered by injury and when he did return to fitness who found himself behind the likes of Louis Moult, Scott McDonald and Ryan Bowman who were all knocking at the door in front of him.

Blyth made his ‘Well debut in the newly revamped League Cup competition, coming on as a late substitute in a 2-0 defeat to Rangers in July 2016. He wouldn’t make his first start for the club until April 2017 when he featured in a drab 0-0 in a Lanarkshire derby versus Hamilton Accies.

On the 8th August 2017, Jacob would leave the club under a cloud with the clubs official statement being:

Motherwell Football Club can today (Tuesday 8th August) confirm it has parted company with striker Jacob Blyth by mutual consent.

It would be almost a year later until he found a new club when he signed for Barrow the following pre season. Within weeks of linking up with The Bluebird’s he would suffer more injury woes as he collided with an advertising board and barrier in a friendly, initially it was thought he had broken his arm but later it was revealed that it was a dislocated shoulder.

Over the next few seasons new clubs would come thick and fast for the Englishman as he would serve the likes of Macclesfield Town, Altrincham, Gateshead, Oldham Athletic and Chorley.
