Bert Cleland

Bert ClelandBert joined the club in 1934, a few seasons after the infamous league win. He struggled to make any real impact with the club, as the likes of Willie McFadyen, John McMenemy and George Stevenson amongst others were all still at the club vying for a first team spot in head of him. Playing in only 5 first team games he would net twice, with goals against both Falkirk and Ayr United in successive fixtures. The 1934/35 season would see the club finish 7th in the league, the first time they had finished outside the top three since 1925/26. As ‘Sailor’ Hunter tried to build a side to challenge the Old Firm again, Cleland was seldom used and left the club in 1936.
