George Dawson spent almost three seasons at Fir Park, he was originally recruited from Rutherglen Glencairn in 1952. He was a rapid wing half, unfortunately he had the difficult task of breaking into the side which had just won the cup but when he was called upon for first team duties he wouldn’t let the side down. Dawson was in the ‘Well side which won the Lord Provost of Glasgow’s Trophy on 22nd September 1952 at Firhill, beating Hibernian 5-1 in a Cup Winners against League Champions match. He also scored a goal in that match. Eventually after 18 matches and 2 goals in all competitions, George decided to seek first team football elsewhere and he was given a free transfer in 1955. His next port of call was to link up at Loftus Road with Queens Park Rangers in London but sadly he wouldn’t only make a solitary appearance before vanishing from the senior game.
