Glasgow born left back, Paul Friar (sometimes erroneously spelt Fryer) arrived at Fir Park in 1983 on loan from English side Rotherham United. He was perhaps seen as an ideal replacement for the veteran Joe Wark who had started to drift out of the side over the past few seasons. In truth Paul would make little impact in Lanarkshire, his debut saw the side fall to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Celtic, he would only make one further appearance from the bench before fading away from the first team.
A former Scotland Youth cap, Friar started his senior career with Leicester City who he signed for as a teenager. He had a long list of previous employers which included Charlton Athletic, Northampton Town, Aldershot and East Stirlingshire.
