John Gray (II)

John GrayEighteen year old right winger John Gray began his football career at Eastercraigs B.C, he would move onto Cumbernauld Juniors where he would stay briefly before joining Motherwell in 1972.

John earned promotion to the first team after producing two fantastic displays against Airdrieonians and Celtic reserves that had the opposition officials raving about him.

He made his first team debut in a League Cup tie in August 1972 and put on a superb display as Motherwell would easily brush aside East Stirlingshire 5-1. He made the running for the first two goals and capped off a fine performance by notching the third goal for himself.

Sadly however, John failed to live up to the early promise, in his early days at Fir Park he enjoyed an extended run of games during the opening months of the 1972/73 season before drifting out of the first team, after losing his place appearances would be somewhat sporadic over the course of the next eighteen months and he was eventually released in 1974. John would later show up at Ayr Utd before going back to the junior ranks.
