Liam Grimshaw

Liam Grimshaw joined Motherwell on loan from Manchester United in September 2015, the youngster had come through the ranks at Old Trafford progressing from schoolboy level right through into the clubs main academy where he eventually became the captain of their side. The officials at Man Utd were that impressed by his development that Liam was quickly compared to the likes of John O’Shea and Phil Neville.

Despite not having made a senior appearance, Grimshaw added a degree of versatility to Motherwell’s squad as he could be deployed in both defensive and midfield roles, in his short time at Fir Park he made 16 appearances for the club often playing at right back or as a defensive midfielder.

Liam got his first taste of action in Keith Lasley’s testimonial match against Bolton Wanderers where he showed exactly what he was capable of by hitting a long range shot which hit the bar. His official debut came in a league fixture in a 1-1 draw against Ross County.

The young Englishman became a popular player at Fir Park, despite the side struggling for results, Liam’s energy and commitment quickly won over the fans, his work ethic, improvement and development was exceptional. As his loan deal expired in January 2016 the club had hoped to extend his deal but as it transpired he had other admirers and he was sold for an undisclosed fee to Preston North End in the English Championship. Liam has been capped at England U18 level.
