Martin Grehan

Martin GrehanNicknamed ‘The Greek’ – Martin Grehan caught the eye of Motherwell’s scout Bobby Jenks while playing for junior outfit Dundonald Bluebell. He certainly had an impressive scoring record as the 24 year old had netted 32 goals in 31 appearances for Bluebell. In January 2008 Mark McGhee purchased him for a nominal fee, and he became the first player to sign for the club from the junior ranks since ‘well favourite Dougie Arnott’s arrival from Pollock. Grehan showed up well in the reserves and netted on a few occasions before he was swiftly placed into the first team squad as Motherwell travelled to Paisley to face St Mirren, he would of course come on as a late subtitute but sadly the damage was done as the Buddies won the game 3-1, this would be the strikers one and only appearance in Claret and Amber. Shortly afterwards he was allowed to join Third Division side Forfar Athletic on loan, where he scored twice in ten appearances, Upon returning, Martin was deemed surplus to requirements and was allowed to leave the club on a free transfer. He was swiftly snapped up by Stirling Albion who had just been relegated from the Scottish First Division. Martin would go on to forge a good career in the lower leagues in Scotland turning out for the likes of Partick Thistle, Stranraer and Alloa Athletic.
