A strong and commanding goalkeeper, Russell Griffiths joined Everton’s youth academy at the age of 14, he progressed through all the age groups and played a pivotal role for their U18 side that would go on to win the 2013/14 league title.
Despite being selected to appear on the bench in European competition for the Toffees, he route was barred by the likes of Tim Howard and Joel Robles, to enhance the youngsters development he was loaned out to various clubs before he joined Motherwell on loan on the 27th January 2017 replacing the outgoing Dean Brill who failed to make any first team starts for the club.
His loan spell was essentially spent as a reserve as he couldn’t displace Craig Samson, he did however get his chance as he made his debut on the 6th May 2017 as Motherwell fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ross County, it was a somewhat frustrating afternoon for the Englishman as he had little to do as Motherwell just couldn’t penetrate the Staggies defence before they got hit with the proverbial sucker punch.
