Alex Harper signed for Motherwell at the beginning of the 1954/55 season, coming straight from the clubs unofficial feeder club Douglas Water Thistle, a side which would produce ‘Well legends Pat Delaney and Willie McCallum. Sadly though Alex wouldn’t follow in their footsteps as he would only ever make one appearance in the first team. This came in the League Cup competition on 4th September 1954 against Raith Rovers at Starks park, where the Steelman were soundly beaten 3-0. After 2 years at the club he was allowed to leave and he joined English outfit Northampton Town.
