Simon Mensing

Simon MensingSimon Mensing was the first signing of the 2007/08 season, he was actually lined up by former manager Maurice Malpas but he had resigned as the deal was almost concluded, the new management team of Mark McGhee and Scott Leitch decided to give him a chance and finalised the deal. The previous season Simon actually got the Man of the Match for his performance in the 2-1 win for his St Johnstone as they upset Motherwell in the Scottish Cup Quarter Final live on BBC at Fir Park.

A strong and tenacious midfielder, Simon found himself down the pecking order as fellow midfielders Phil O’Donnell, Keith Lasley, Steve McGarry and Marc Fitzpatrick seemed to be preferred to him. With the arrival of Stephen Hughes in late August that ultimately put paid to his career for Motherwell. Mensing made the short journey over the Clyde to join Hamilton Accies on a loan before he was allowed to join them on a permanent deal. Simon played his part in helping the Accies get promoted into the SPL for the first time in over two decades. He would only rack up four appearances in claret and amber and left without making any real impression.

Simon later served Livingston, Raith Rovers, Airdrieonians, Forfar Athletic and American sides Atlanta Silverbacks and Carolina RailHawks, he later became a youth coach with Partick Thistle.
