Mark Reynolds

Mark ReynoldsBorn & raised in Motherwell, Mark Reynolds joined the club at an early age and progressed through the Motherwell youth setup, before Terry Butcher handed the youngster his debut on the 3rd May 2006 the penultimate game of the 2005/06 season, as the side travelled to play an already relegated Livingston. Mark put in a solid performance as a rather youthful ‘Well defence kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win at Almondvale.

Reynolds would become a regular fixture in the side the following season and was perhaps only one of a few highlights under the dismal 2006/07 season under Maurice Malpas. Mark would make his 100 appearance for the club only a matter of months after celebrating his 21st birthday, a remarkable achievement given his age. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that not one of his appearances came from the subs bench, only a controversial red card prevented a consecutive century.

In June 2008 it was reported that Rangers had made an offer of around £750,000 for his services, which the club turned down. ‘Well boss Mark McGhee stated he was keen to retain the club’s better players ahead of the Uefa Cup campaign. He would be linked with the likes of Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, Swansea City and Nottingham Forest but it wasn’t until January 2011 until the club accepted an offer from English League One side Sheffield Wednesday, with Mark’s contract up at the end of the season the club were keen to get some money for him, so they accepted the paltry £100,000 plus add ons for the young defender. He would play his last game for the club in a bore 0-0 draw against neighbours Hamilton Accies in January 2011.

Despite a bright start to his career at Hillsborough, he would struggle to carve out a regular first team place and before too long he was back in the SPL having to loan spells at Aberdeen before joining them on a permanent basis in January 2013. He would get on the scoresheet for Aberdeen against Motherwell early in the 2013/14 season, as he helped the dons win their first League game in five years against the Steelmen. Mark has also been capped at Scotland U20 and U21 Level as well as a “B” cap.
