Willie Reid



Willie ReidBorn in Baillieston, Willie Reid was a dashing little forward who started his career with Morton in 1904. In 1907 this young centre forward joined Motherwell after his two year stint at Cappielow. In his two seasons with Motherwell, Willie proved to lethal in and around the box as he hit the back of the net an impressive 35 times in league matches.

He went on to join Glasgow Rangers where he would win a number of domestic honours, serving the Govan outfit for well over a decade. In 1920, he joined Albion Rovers, after retiring he would take up the role as secretary/manager, before becoming the Dundee United manager in 1931. His league goal scoring record for Morton was 19, for Rangers 188 and 36 for Coatbridge outfit Albion Rovers. Willie was capped nine times by Scotland and eight by the Scottish League.
