Jimmy Watson

Jimmy WatsonJimmy was born in Plains, Lanarkshire. He played for the club between 1943 and 1952. His partnership with men like Archie Kelly and Jim Forrest made the ‘Well a high-scoring side. Jimmy scored Motherwell’s goal in the 1945 southern league cup final, when Rangers pipped Motherwell 2-1. He was something of a goal expert, as his games to goals ratio proves – Scottish Cup 51 games 21 goals, League Cup 26 games 10 goals, Summer Cup 6 games 7 goals and in the league 195 games 66 goals. In the 1952 Scottish Cup win Jimmy netted the opening goal against Dundee. A few weeks later after the final he left the club in controversial circumstances. Jimmy however did enjoy a highly successful spell in England with Huddersfield Town before heading back up north to finish his career with Dunfermline Athletic.
