Gordon Young served Motherwell for 13 years in various capacities including Junior Academy Director, Academy Director, First Team Coach and Caretaker Manager. His caretaker duties saw him take the reigns of the club between 10th December 2010 and 30th December 2010 after the surprise u-turn of former boss Craig Brown who initially turned down the chance to manage SPL rivals Aberdeen but to then surprisingly accept the job a few days later. Gordon took charge of three games which all ended in defeat, in fairness it was a difficult set of fixtures to contend with as the side faced Hearts, Rangers and Celtic. The aftermath of the Hearts game brought some challenges as midfielder Steve Jennings became embroiled in a betting scandal due to his sending off in the game.

Gordon left the club to join Sheffield United and became their International Academy Manager, later in his career he returned to Scotland and served Dundee United as assistant manager then Falkirk.
