Ian St John

Ian St JohnIan St John became the fifth Motherwell manager, being appointed in June 1973. In over fifteen months in charge of the Steelmen, he rejuvenated the side and installed first his former Liverpool team mate Bobby Graham and then Willie Pettigrew in his side. Also at his disposal were Willie McCallum, Peter Millar and Keith MacRae who all of course would play well over 100 times for Willie he’d feature over 200 times for the club. With these talents on board the attendances at Fir Park at the time would usually be in excess of 10,000. Had he not left for Portsmouth in September 1974 who knows what heights he might have took the club. After his spell with Portsmouth he made his breakthrough into broadcasting thus via Radio Merseyside and a commentator’s competition. Ian also went on to co-host a show with England legend Jimmy Greaves and went on to establish himself as a major television pundit.
