Ray Allan

Ray AllanJust before Alex McLeish joined the ‘Well as manager, the squad was without any goalkeepers as Billy Thomson moved to Rangers and big Sieb Dykstra moved to QPR. An added difficulty was the looming European deadline but before that came he had secured the services of Stevie Woods and 38 year old Ray Allan, rumoured to be McLeish’s cousin as back-up. Ray only made a handful of appearances for the club, firstly making his debut against Clydebank in a league cup tie and finally coming on as a sub in Motherwell’s European away leg against Havnar Boltfelag, a game which Motherwell won 4-1 (7-1 over both legs). Before too long McLeish had brought in Scott Howie and Ray eventually faded away from the Fir Park scene.
