Rolando Aarons

Rolando Aarons arrived on loan from Newcastle United just a matter of hours before the transfer window closed in January 2020. Comfortable playing on both wings he brought a direct style of play and an abundance of pace to the ‘Well attack.

Aarons started his football career in the Bristol City Academy before heading to the North East during the 2011/12 season. Despite being born in Jamaica, Rolando would represent England at U20 international level winning five caps.

Having broken into the Magpie’s first team during the 2-14/15 season enjoying some English Premiership experience he eventually fell out of favour and subsequently spent time out on loan representing Serie A side Hellas Verona, Sheffield Wednesday, Slovan Liberec, and Wycombe Wanderers before he arrived in Lanarkshire.

The tricky winger made his ‘Well debut in a Premiership fixture against Celtic on the 5th February 2020 as the Steelmen fell to a 0-4 defeat at Fir Park. Rolando scored his first goal for the club in a Scottish Cup tie where the side battled back from being down 1-4 at halftime against St Mirren to claw back a 4-4 draw before losing on penalties.

Ultimately he would make eight first-team appearances for the club before the season was brought to an early end due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
