Born in Edinburgh, Alex Bain joined the Steelmen in 1954 from Cockenzie Star progressing through the junior sides before becoming a frequent scorer for the reserves. A printer by trade, the centre-forward had a unique set of traits on the football field, standing at 5′ 9″ one of his main assets was his fantastic heading ability despite not having a commanding presence. Perhaps the highlight of his stay at Fir Park was to represent the club and score in the 1954 League Cup Final against Hearts despite the side falling to a disappointing 4-2 loss. In 1957 Alex was transferred to Huddersfield Town but despite getting on the scoresheet on a regular basis he failed to settle at the club. He would later represent Chesterfield before winding his career down with Falkirk and Bournemouth.
