Billy Brown

Billy BrownBilly was signed from Hull City in 1970, he had been plying his trade down south with Hull City but the youngster was homesick and was looking to move back nearer home. He was recommended to ‘well reserve Coach Willie McSeveney whose brother John who was Hull’s Chief Coach. Billy was a Half-Back and he enjoyed short run in the team at the beginning of the 1971/72 season. His last game for the ‘Well proved memorable, coming as it did in an 8-3 defeat at Partick Thistle in December 1971. Billy had got on the score sheet that day but it mattered little. He moved to Raith Rovers on a free transfer in 1973 and helped them win the Second Division title, sadly for Billy cruciate ligament damage forced him to retire from the game at the age of 27. Thereafter he coached Raith Rovers reserves, Musselburgh Athletic and Newtongrange Star, before teaming up with Jim Jeffries at Berwick Rangers, Falkirk, Hearts, Bradford City and Kilmarnock. A proud moment for him and Jeffries came in 1998 when Hearts won the Scottish Cup 2-1 by beating Rangers at Celtic Park.
