Robert signed for the club in 1951 coming from Polkemmet Juniors. He would only make six appearances for the club, Andy Paton, Charlie Cox and Willie Redpath were all competing for the same positions and barred any route to the first team. After four years at Fir Park he was released by the club and joined English side Workington Town.
