Ian Clinging

Born in Motherwell in December 1958, Ian Clinging started his football career in the juniors with Carluke Rovers before joining the Steelmen in 1977. A popular player at Fir Park as he was a hard worker and was great on the ball. He was loaned out to Kilmarnock in 1983 before joining Morton, where he would also be a consistent performer. Jock Wallace tried to by Ian for £90.000 when he was manager at Leicester City but the Motherwell board rejected the offer. Ian made 135 appearances for the club scoring 30 goals. Later in his career he served Forfar Athletic and Berwick Rangers.
