Centre Half, Willie Cowie joined Motherwell in 1956 coming from Kilsyth Rangers. A tall imposing player, he had all the credentials to make his mark in the side but unfortunately for him, Andy Paton barred his route into the side and over three season at Fir Park he would only make the 16 appearances. Cowie would join Queen of the South in 1959 but again he found himself on the fringes and after one season at Palmerston Park he decided to head back to the juniors with Kilsyth.
