Alex Fisher

Alex Fisher signed a two year deal with Motherwell on the 2nd June 2017 becoming the first player to be signed by manager Stephen Robinson as he looked to revamp his entire squad for the 2017/18 season. The Englishman had clearly caught the eye of the ‘Well coaching staff due to his fine performances for Inverness CT against the Steelmen towards the end of the previous campaign as both clubs were embroiled in a relegation battle, Fisher of course netted four goals in two games between the side showing a fine range of finishing in the process.

The 26 year old had been well travelled before arriving at Fir Park as he career had taken him from clubs in England to various different sides in Spain, Belgium and Italy before he was signed by Richie Foran for the Caley Jags. Alex possessed an impressive frame, standing at 6’3” he was deceptively quick and was capable of playing as a centre forward or attacking midfielder and on occasion was even deployed in a wide position.

For whatever reason, Fisher struggled to fit into the scheme of things at Motherwell, originally he was the preferred choice to partner Louis Moult in attack but he quickly lost his place to Ryan Bowman. Perhaps suffering from a lack of confidence as getting his first goal in claret and amber seemed to elude him as he missed some glorious chances in his early games against Queen’s Park and Edinburgh City in the League Cup Group stages and in the Premiership opener, his late effort against Rangers deflected narrowly past the post which would have salvaged a deserved equaliser.

Alex was of course part of the side that went on the impressive run in the 2017/18 League Cup, he featured in every game in some capacity but he wouldn’t get off the bench in the Final as the Steelmen fell to a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Celtic. Despite being a popular player with his team mates and management at Fir Park, he was released on the 26th January 2018 as all parties agreed that unfortunately the move just simply didn’t work out.

On the same day he departed Motherwell, he made the long drive south to join Yeovil Town who played in English League Two, the Glovers were actually in action that same night as they played host to Manchester United in the FA Cup, a dream debut for Fisher to enjoy but the side crashed to a 0-4 defeat despite a brave effort.
