Graeme Forbes

Graeme ForbesBorn in Forfar in July 1958, Graeme Forbes started his footballing career with Dundee based side Lochee United and it was from there Motherwell signed him in 1980. He brought a degree of flexibility to the squad as he was comfortable slotting in at defence or in a midfield position. He was great in the air, comfortable with the ball at his feet and proved to be robust when tackling, he was never one to shriek out of a 50/50 challenge, additionally he was no stranger at getting on the scoresheet from time to time. It was these attributes which won the approval from the fans due to his commitment as his effort was never in question.

While at Fir Park he went through both the elation of promotion and the disappointment of relegation. In September 1986 when he was in his prime aged 28, the club accepted a £80,000 bid from English side Walsall. For reasons that were never really disclosed he was sold, it was no secret the club had some financial issues and manager Tommy McLean was likely motivated to get some of the saleable assets on the transfer list to generate some much needed funds.

Forbes made over 200 appearances in all competitions for the Steelmen. Graeme would have brief spells with Dundee then Montrose before bringing down the curtain on his playing career.
