Jim Griffin

Jim GriffinJim Griffin signed from Fir Park Boys Club in June 1985, sadly Jim’s career was cut short by injury and he had to retire from the playing staff in 1994. He made his first team debut in a 4-0 defeat by Hibernian in 1986. Jim made rather slow progress in the first team, however this was due to injuries, the most notable of which were inflicted by team mate Colin McNair in a training ground assault, Tommy McLean sacked young Colin immediately. In the early 90s, Jim started to make strides in the first team and he started bagging a few goals. In the 1991 Scottish Cup, he set up the first goal for Iain Ferguson to head home. He was granted a testimonial against Wolverhampton Wanderers and thereafter joined the backroom staff at Fir Park. He became Motherwell’s caretaker manager in February 1998 and when Harri Kampman took over, Jim was named Assistant Manager. Jim was later sacked from that position in 1999 and was replaced by Miodrag Krivokapic. Initially a part time footballer, he served his apprenticeship as an engineer and he gained an HNC in a multi-disciplinary engineering. In 2000 Jim started a job as a lecturer at Motherwell College in sports and fitness, he later went on to run his own college course in football.
