Bert Howieson

Bert HowiesonBert Howieson began his footballing career at Elland Road with Leeds United, a team managed by legendary manager Don Revie. The young inside forward struggled to break into the United side due to the abundance of talent that they had at their disposal so he moved onto Albion Rovers before making the move to join Dundee United. It was at Tannadice that Bert enjoyed his best run of football as he made 66 league appearances scoring 6 goals in a four year period. He became frustrated as he wasn’t consistently used in the starting lineup and opted to join Motherwell in 1965 but he made little impression at Fir Park making only 7 appearances for the club scoring 2 goals, both of which came against the sides from Tayside, firstly in a 1-4 defeat against his former employers Dundee United and secondly in a 2-1 win over Dundee. Howieson had made all his Motherwell appearances between August and September of the 1965/66 season before drifting out the first team completely.
