Slovakian internationalist Maroš Klimpl joined the club on a three month loan deal from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland in August 2008. Frustratingly he was side-lined almost immediately with an ankle injury which would keep him out of action for almost that entire three months. When he regained fitness towards the end of November he was pitched into the starting line up to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie but the Steelmen would fall to a 0-2 defeat.
Maroš quickly became a fans favourite mainly due to his no nonsense and tenacious style of play and his willingness to get stuck into the opposition. In the 24 appearances he made for the club he would rack up 9 yellow cards. Mark McGhee extended his loan deal until the end of the campaign much to the delight of the ‘Well support. He proved to be quite a versatile player as he could play both in a defensive or midfield role. He did net a fine goal at Tannadice as the Steelmen would run riot against Dundee United in a fixture in January 2009 winning 4-0.
His parent club made it clear he was allowed to leave the club despite having a year left to run on his contract. He did state he enjoyed playing in the UK and that his family were settled in the country but he wouldn’t commit his future to Motherwell even when the club was willing to offer him a permanent contract. As the season came to an end it was clear Maroš seen his future elsewhere and before too long he was on trial at English Championship outfit Cardiff City. However he failed to win a contract with the Welsh outfit and he would eventually sign for Scottish First Division Club Dundee. He would only stay at Dens Park for the one season making 20 appearances. He would re-join a former club Viktoria Žižkov soon thereafter.
