Dick Little



Dick Little joined Motherwell in 1922 and would feature for the club until 1929. Born in Ryton, Dick was a talented right back who would play for Newcastle Utd, Hamilton Accies and Cowdenbeath before making the move to Fir Park. Dick’s Motherwell debut came against Morton at Cappielow on 19th August 1922 in a 2-0 defeat. He had a great knack from the penalty spot and in his Motherwell career he was regular taker, he netted 12 goals in his time at the ‘Well and made 181 appearances. On 25th January 1925 he was struck in the head by a stone in a match against Celtic, the police arrested four men over the incident. It was John Johnman who would eventually win the right back berth and Dick would go on to join Morton in June 1929. As his career fizzled out he would have a brief spell at both Dunfermline Athletic and Glentoran before retiring.
