A youngster at St Mirren, Peter Leonard joined Motherwell on-loan with a view to a permanent transfer during the 1978/79 season, the forward made little impact in his time at Fir Park as he would only feature in six first team games without scoring. In fairness to Peter the side were toiling hopelessly in the Premier League and as the management chop and changed the side using no fewer than 32 players throughout the campaign it would ultimately end in disaster as the team suffered relegation. Leonard of course would not join the club on a permanent basis, his career actually took him to the Junior’s upon his return to Love Street as he joined Irvine Meadow.
