Born in Old Hill, England in November 1891, Billy Morgan joined the club in the 1916. A neat, skilful left winger he had previously featured down south with Birmingham City, but he had been lured north by work in the local munitions industry during the war. During the 1918/19 campaign, Motherwell used no fewer than six left wing players although Billy was the regular occupant. A player by the name of Bobby Ferrier broke through and soon made the left wing berth his own and Morgan returned south at the end of the campaign returning to Birmingham.
Morgan represented the English Football League XI in February 1919 against the Scottish League at his home ground of St Andrew’s, Birmingham, in the first representative match played after the First World War.
