Glasgow born winger, Jim Murphy arrived as Fir Park from Notts County in 1969, the former Raith Rovers and Hearts player was brought in to replace George Murray who was heading further north to join Aberdeen.
Jim had started his career with Larkhall Thistle before becoming a professional with Alloa Athletic. His debut was a scoring one seeing him net in a Second Division division match in a 3-1 win over Berwick Rangers. When the club were promoted to the First Division he became a fringe player, in 1970 he made the short trip over the River Clyde to join Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton Academical.
