Motherwell signed Chic McLelland in 1979 from Aberdeen and it cost £10,000. At Pittodrie, he had been in the first team picture for most of six years. Chic was a full back who was capable of playing either left or right back. He settled into the Fir Park scene quickly and managed to make 34 league outings in his first year. The following season saw Motherwell once again struggling unsuccessfully to gain promotion to the Premier Division and Chic was only able to count 15 league appearances before moving to Dundee at the end of the season.
