John made his Motherwell league debut early in the 1965/66 campaign. He was named in the forward line in 22 games and netted four goals. However, he could not sustain the promising start he had to his ‘Well career with early goals against Hearts, Hamilton Accies and Partick Thistle, the goals just dried up.
