A product of the Celtic Academy, Kevin McBride was signed on a seasons loan as he struggled to break into the first team scene at Parkhead. Although predominately a central midfielder, Motherwell manager Terry Butcher would often deploy him out on the right side of midfield.
Kevin certainly looked an exciting prospect and proved to be a confident penalty taker where he would score most of his goals with the club. He made his debut on the 14th August 2004 against Hibernian in a 2-1 defeat. McBride played a pivotal role in the squad during the 2004/05 season which seen a great run in the League Cup where he scored in the early rounds of the competition but sadly he would have to settle for a runners up medal as the side crashed to a 5-1 defeat in the final against Rangers.
The young midfielder enjoyed a successful first season where he scored 7 goals in 30 appearances. His loan spell had been turned into a permanent transfer in January 2005.
Sadly it seemed he would struggle to build upon the form he enjoyed during the previous season, an injury would rule him out for the early part of the 2005/06 season before returning to the first team fold in December against Inverness. By the time Maurice Malpas was manager he would struggle to really impose himself into the first team and as his form varied he dropped in and out of the side.
Kevin was offered a contract extension at the end of the 06/07 season but he opted to join Darlington, but he struggled to settle in the North East of England and in January 2008 he joined Falkirk. Later in his career he would turn out for Hibernian, Hamilton Accies, Dundee and Airdrieonians, it was with the Diamonds that McBride would be playing with when he retired from the playing, before taking up a manager role with the Lanarkshire rivals.
Interestingly, Kevin was part of the Hibernian side that collapsed in the last 25 minutes of the famous 6-6 draw in May 2010, he came on as a late sub in the match.
