Born in Bellshill in November 1967, Martin McBride signed an S form with the club as a teenager when Jock Wallace was the manager, he arrived from Fir Park Boys Club.
By the time Tommy McLean became the manager, McBride had still been featuring as a full timer with Fir Park BC U18’s side but along with a number of other promising youngsters he was farmed out on loan to local outfit Wishaw Juniors.
He scored his first goal for the club in a Scottish Cup replay against Kilmarnock in February 1988, he came on as a substitute when the side were trailing by a goal, Martin made an instant impact by not only scoring but helping with a number of assists as the Steelmen won the tie 3-1. A piece was written in the next programme by John Swinburne titled “Marty turns the tide”.
As time wore on he was unable to command a regular first team place in the side and was granted a free transfer in 1990 where he soon joined East Stirlingshire.
Having served the Steelmen for almost six years he managed to make 38 appearances for the first team with two goals to his name.
