Michael McGlinchey

Michael McGlincheyMichael joined Motherwell on loan in February 2010 from Australian club Central Coast Mariners, he was actively seeking a short term move as the A-League season had finished and with the 2010 World Cup in South Africa looming he wanted to impress the New Zealand camp. The young midfielder had stiff competition as the club weren’t short of options in his position as the likes of Keith Lasley, Steve Jennings, Giles Coke and Ross Forbes were all vying for the same positions. He would struggle to carve out a first team place and would only make eight first team appearances, seven of these coming from the substitute’s bench. He did however feature in the amazing 6-6 against Hibernian on the penultimate game of the 2009/10 season.

Despite being born in Wellington, New Zealand, Michael moved to Scotland at a young age and had come through the ranks at Celtic. He only made one appearance for the Parkhead club and had a brief loan spell with Dunfermline Athletic before trying his luck in Australia. He had also been capped at Scotland under 20 and 21 level before changing his allegiance to New Zealand.
