Rab McKinnon

Rab McKinnonRab McKinnon was a left back and it was Tommy McLean who snapped him up early in 1992 from Hartlepool for a dee between £125,000 and £150,000. Rab had served his football apprenticeship in the juniors with Rutherglen Glencairn before going south to Newcastle United in 1984. He had an unsuccessful time on Tyneside as he only made one appearance and he could tell you himself that match he made way for a young player by the name of Paul Gascoigne. Rab proved to be one of Tommy McLean’s most astute signings. He was a strong defender and was more that capable of pushing forward. He was one of the first players to leave Motherwell on a Bosman transfer, he was lured away to Twente Enschede of Holland in 1996 and Motherwell received absolutely nothing. He returned to Scotland in July 1998 to play for Hearts.
