Born in Glasgow in November 1920, Willie McCall started his career with Blantyre Vics before stepping into the senior game with Hamilton Accies. It was in December 1948 when he joined Motherwell for £5,500 from Newcastle United. He was to stay with the club until December 1950, when Motherwell moved him onto Third Lanark for £3,000. His 28 league games in Motherwell colours brought 8 goals, the most notable of which came in a 4-0 win over Rangers on 10th December 1949.
