Victor Nirennold

Frenchman, Victor Nirennold joned Motherwell on the 25th January 2022 signing a short term contract that would see him through until the conclusion of the 2021/22 season. Capable of being deployed either as a centre back or as a right full back, his addition to the squad was perhaps somewhat of a surprise as the squad had plenty cover in the defensive area before his arrival.

Victor was a relatively late started to the senior game, already in his early 20s he played college football in the United States with Erskine Flying Fleet and then Nova South Eastern Sharks before he arrived at FC Miami City in Florida, but again he was used in the 2015 Premier Development League.

A towering defender standing at 6’ 4” he arrived in the UK in August 2015 and after a successful trial, future Motherwell manager Graham Alexander signed him for Fleetwod Town in the EFL League One where he would taste senior football for the first time at the age of 24. Alexander would however depart Highbury Stadium the following month.

Nirennold would go in to serve Guiseley in the English National League, FK Senica in Slovakia, SHB Đà Nẵng in Vietnam and finally UiTM FC who were based in Malaysia.

Victor was reunited with his old manager Graham Alexander at Motherwell but if truth be told he perhaps never made the impact that he might have envisaged. In his short spell in Lanarkshire he only managed to make three first team appearances, his debut was coming on as a late substitute against Celtic as the side fell to a 0-4 defeat at Fir Park in February. While he would on occasion appear on the bench as a named sub it would be until the penultimate and ultimate fixtures of the 2021/22 season that he would feature again.

Nirennold came on with minutes remaining in a 2-1 victory over Hearts which would see the club secure European football, its probably worth mentioning that he put in a fantastic challenge near the end of the match as the side had to dig deep to secure the three points, days later he made his first start in a forgettable 6-0 defeat at Parkhead against Celtic.

As his contract expired in May, it was no surprise when his name was on the list of player departures.
