Estonian born Striker Henrik Ojamaa came through the Derby County youth academy but would fail to make any first team appearances at Pride Park. He did however have a short loan spell at Stafford Rangers where he won numerous Man of the Match awards during his short spell there.
Upon his release from Derby he joined German club Alemannia Aachen but again he found first team opportunities limited and was loaned out to Dutch outfit Fortuna Sittard. It wasn’t long before Henrik was on the move again as he would sign a short term deal with Finnish club RoPS, despite becoming a regular in their side he sadly couldn’t save the club from relegation and he was released at the end of the campaign.
The 20 year old would sign a short term deal with Motherwell in early January 2012 after impressing manager Stuart McCall in two separate trials. He would make his ‘Well debut coming on as a 2nd half Sub against Queens Park in a Scottish Cup tie. Making an immediate impression he proved to be a tricky player, was willing to take players on. He would score a stunning late strike gathering the ball at the edge of the box before hitting an unstoppable shot as Motherwell capped off a 4-0 win.
Ojamaa would prove to be a fine signing as he put in some impressive showings and would get on the scoresheet on numerous occasions. He quickly began to attract interest from other clubs but the management were quick to offer the young Estonian a further two year deal.
He quickly became a fans favourite and his goal celebration “whipping out the pistols” proved popular. He would help the club achieve a 3rd place league finish in the SPL, which helped the club seal a place in the Champions League. He scored nine goals between January to May 2012.
The 2012/13 season goals seemed much harder to come by as he was used predominantly as an attacking midfielder, but he did provide the perfect foil for the likes of Michael Higdon as the big Englishman would rack up the goals. Indeed Henrik would finish the season as top assister. His fine form with the Steelmen also seen him getting called up for the Estonian national side on a regular basis. Henrik had also been capped at u19 & u21 level.
Henrik had a brief return to Scotland when he joined Dundee on loan in 2017. He played against Motherwell in February when the Dee’s found themselves 5-1 ahead at half time in a game which caused Mark McGhee to lose his job as ‘Well boss.
He had attracted interest from Polish side Lech Poznan but the club would reject their bid, he would sign for Polish Champions Legia Warsaw in June 2013 for an undisclosed fee.
