Tom O’Neill

Perhaps better known for his time with Clyde, Tom O’Neill joined Motherwell in 1975 arriving from Junior side Shotts Bon Accord. He was certainly a talented midfielder but he struggled to break into the first team fold at Fir Park, he was a regular reserve for a couple of season but managed to make a solitary appearance during the 1975/76 season followed by a few more the following campaign. He scored his one and only Motherwell goal in a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen in October 1977. After making 17 appearances for the club he left to join Clyde in 1978. Tom would also serve Hamilton Academical, Airdrieonians and Stirling Albion where he would take the role of player coach then latterly assistant manager, upon retiring he would work as a scout working for both halves of the Old Firm at different points.
