Ian Ross

Ian RossAt the tail end of the 1995/96 season Alex McLeish gave youngster Ian Ross his debut against Hearts, a game which Motherwell lost 0-1. He was actually signed as a forward, but under the three managers he he showed great versatility as he was used in full-back positions, defensive midfield and as an attacking midfielder.

Ian scored three goals during his ‘Well career one of which being against Dundee United who were led by former manager Tommy McLean, his most memorable was a matter of weeks later as he managed to bundle home a later winner against Celtic at Fir Park, a result which was all the more impressive considering the Steelmen had to play without a recognised keeper for a considerable amount of the match as midfielder, Jamie Dolan took over goalkeeping duties for the injured Scott Howie.

He finally drifted out of the first team scene during the 1999/00 season and he was allowed to leave and join St Mirren, he helped the Buddies win promotion the the SPL. Later in his career he served Partick Thistle, Alloa Athletic and Stranraer.
