Gordon was a competitive midfielder, he was brought to Fir Park by Ally MacLeod in 1979 from Falkirk and he quickly settled into the senior side that term. Despite his 32 league appearances and 5 goals (mostly from the penalty spot) he was unable to savour promotion. This also eluded him during the following season, in which his 18 appearances brought 3 counters. Sadly for Gordon he was unable to win a first team spot, as Motherwell romped back to the Premier League.
