Gregor was a young defender capable of playing in midfield. Skilful and strong, these attributes made him into an excellent player. He was capped by Scotland at under 21 level and he left to join Jock Wallace at Leicester City in 1979 for £165,000, within a year he returned north to sign for John Greig’s Rangers side for £150,000. He later came back to Motherwell briefly, before joining Partick Thistle in November 1984. While at Rangers he was sent off time after time, occasionally for wild tackles that became notorious, so he is probably best known for this, unlike his great service for Motherwell.
