Willie Telfer

Willie TelferBorn in Shotts on the 23rd March 1909, Willie Telfer was picked up from Junior outfit Blantyre Celtic in the late 1920s. He was quick to cement his place in the side as when the 1929/30 campaign was coming to a close Telfer would form a mid-line with Hugh Wales and Allan Craig which was to figure prominently for the remainder of the season and indeed many seasons to follow. Willie was a styling young left half, admired by many Motherwell fans.

He played in 284 league games scoring just the solitary goal. In 1939 he joined local rivals Airdrieonians, but his career was one of many that would be affected by the out break of World War Two.
