Facts
VAR helped Motherwell’s cause in this game, as firstly Ross County were awarded a penalty for a pull on a County player in the box by Calum Butcher but the video evidence showed that the ‘Well defender had been fouled first, No Penalty.
The second incident occurred when Kevin Van Veen burst through on goal but was cynically fouled by County defender Jack Baldwin. The ref initially gave a yellow card but on reviewing VAR it was changed to a red as Baldwin was the last man.
Kevin Van Veen scored a double in the game but little did we know at the time that this would be the start of a record breaking run where he would score in every game from now until the end of the season (14 goals scored in total during that time). His consistent run of scoring would break a Motherwell record which was set way back in 1920, 103 years ago by the legendary forward Hughie Ferguson. Kevin would also beat a top tier record since the leagues reconstruction which was held by former Rangers forward Marco Negri and Celtic’s Mark Viduka where they both had managed to find the back of the net in 10 continuous league games, Van Veen would manage to get to 11.
