P. B. MacDonald was chosen from 288 applicants becoming the clubs manager and secretary on the 21st May 1904, his football background saw him perform as an amateur for both Newcastle and Sunderland. Before taking the role on at Fir Park he worked with a telephone company in Liverpool. His time with the club was indeed brief as he didn’t seem suited to the job and he left in October 1904 as Motherwell found themselves at the foot of the table.
